Kyle Thureen

The UI College of Engineering is one of only a few in a public university with an accredited biomedical engineering program—something that was very important to Kyle Thureen when he was choosing a university.
Now that he's here, Kyle has discovered why the college is so well respected. "The college encourages excellence," he says. "They like to say that they push for students to be 'engineers and something more,' and it's true. There are so many opportunities to become involved and explore interests both within and outside of engineering."
Kyle takes advantage of those opportunities, too, enrolling in humanities classes and volunteering in the Iowa City community.
Kyle, who received a James C. and Joann S. Hanson Scholarship from the UI, plans to go into the medical device field. He completed an internship during the summer of 2003 at Vital Images Inc., a medical imaging software company in Plymouth, Minnesota.
"The college has staff members devoted to career development," he points out. "They help with resumes, jobs, internships, whatever they can do. It's wonderful."
Kyle is thankful for the financial support he and the college receive. "It's definitely a blessing," he says.
"My scholarship has provided me and my family with this incredible opportunity. And the private support the college receives for its programs and facilities helps make the experience the best it can possibly be."
