Len Saichaie
Class of 2009
Len Saichaie wants to help people. And he wants to do so by following in the footsteps of other University of Iowa College of Pharmacy students who have helped transform health care, both in Iowa and beyond..
"I want to be a practicing pharmacist who helps patients, who can communicate with them effectively and meet their needs," Len says. "And I know my experiences here at Iowa will help me do that."
After receiving a B.S. degree from Iowa State University in 2004, Len chose to attend the UI College of Pharmacy because "the UI is a mecca for health care," with numerous learning opportunities in the field. He already has taken advantage of several such opportunities, which were made possible, in part, by private support to the college.
Len, who was a scholarship recipient during his first year at Iowa, already has completed an internship at a Walgreens pharmacy in Arizona, where he was able to "do everything from counseling patients on their prescription medications to making over-the-counter recommendations to customers." In addition, he has served as student the Operation Diabetes coordinator for the Academy of Student Pharmacists and as the vice president of his class.
Len knows that all these activities will move him even closer to his dream of one day owning his own pharmacy—and he'll owe at least part of his success to generous private support.
"I just want to thank contributors and tell them, 'By helping UI pharmacy students like me today, you allow us to help people like you tomorrow.'"
