Suzanne Droste
Class of 2009, Psychology major/Biology minor
Suzanne Droste is presidential material.
When The University of Iowa awards a Presidential Scholarship—its most prestigious scholarship, given to just 20 incoming first-year students each year, and renewable for four years—it is seeking the kind of leader who will raise the bar for the entire student body.
Suzanne, the recipient of the James C. and Joann S. Hanson Presidential Scholarship, fits the bill.
She seeks out challenges. She serves her University. And she excels academically.
"I always want to do my best," Suzanne says. "I like to be creative and explore things that I think might be interesting. I want to try everything the University has to offer."
Suzanne, who plans on eventually attending graduate school—possibly medical school—looks forward to helping conduct psychological research at the UI. She serves on the Hancher Auditorium Advisory Board. She also helps recruit other outstanding students by meeting with them one-on-one as part of the UI's Top Scholar Recruitment program.
She was accepted by other prestigious universities, but wanted to study in her home state. The UI's offer of a Presidential Scholarship made that possible.
"I was really happy when the offer came," she says. "It made a big difference in my choice. The Hansons' generosity is overwhelming. Essentially, they've given me my future."
That's something for which we can all be grateful, because students like Suzanne make the UI a better place for everyone.
